The summary is really good. It is a present from Helen. I found parts too upsetting to read. But she only writes about herself and it looks as if she doesn’t want to know anything about her son, who she hasn’t seen for years. Doherty tells a beautiful story about love and making choices. I think maybe the reason why it has had such wide appeal is because the subject that it deals with — love, and all its complications, is something that affects us all in one way and another, and that really matters to us.

It would probably succeed in making teenagers take more to avoid pregnancy, but it would be a depressin I thought this was a very realistic account of what might happen to a teenage couple when the girl gets pregnant. She asks Helen if she is pregnant and Helen tells her about it.
