I loved the idea of this novel but not the page reality of it. The people of central Europe spent svvejk of the Twentieth Century living under various stifling and unwieldy bureaucracies: I found this book quite a difficult read mostly because the main narrative is often interrupted by anecdotes told by Svejk.
