Bernice Bobs Her Hair

My first Fitzgerald short story and I really enjoyed it. Since it was a short story I will give it a short review! That girl had it coming. It was adapted into a musical by Adam Gwon and Julia Jordan. Marjorie is everything city. She’s the center of attention, even catching the bernoce of her cousin’s favorite boytoy. This is one of the stories that become the definition of a classic short: A lot of the stories in the collection have racist terms and belittle black people and minorities.

The uair was based on letters Fitzgerald sent to his fittzgerald sister, Annabel, advising her on how to be more attractive to young men. One of the more racist of these stories and surprisingly almost the most endearing is The Offshore Pirate. May 16, Debbie rated it it was amazing. Fitzgerald’s sparkling prose and wit, combined with his rare talent of characterizing petty, flawed, filthy-rich, relatable human beings of the Jazz Age, constantly kept me up at night reading. He is regarded as one of the greatest twentieth century writers.

This was probably my favorite. If anyone ever needed proof that Fitzgerald despised his generation, it can be found right here. This is a story about two cousins. Nair 13, Leah Coffin rated it it was amazing. Fitting for the times, a story about the pitfalls of popularity and the hazard of getting what you wish for as well as the sweet taste of revenge.

Marjorie feels that Bernice is a drag on her social life, and none of the boys wants to dance with Bernice. May 22, Fawzy rated it really liked it. As good as expected, did not berjice it would deal with anything like this, I had more social justice female stuff because of bobbing the hair etc, but the ending was great, well deserved, and I hope Bernice learns to love her hair. A dark story about the deliberate superficiality and solipsism of Jazz Age youth, in which a sweet young girl from the South is horribly used scltt manipulated by her vain, selfish, sociopathic, popular cousin while on vacation.

Bernice is described as conservative and dull in this short story, but through it all I was in her corner.
